Why is a film...

-based on a spectacularly entertaining book...

-directed by a director all too well experienced with adapting novels into entertaining films...

-performed by a cast full of A-list stars in their prime, including Tom Hanks, Bruce Willis, F. Murray Abraham...

... so bad?

Read all about why Bonfire of the Vanities is such a trainwreck here.

Oh, and side note: Here's an interesting editorial by Michael Lewis from 1996, celebrating the 'death' of Sherman McCoy. Considering his latest round of condemnations against the latest Sherman McCoy's, perhaps he spoke a bit too soon. (But he'd never acknowledge that, of course...)
